Low Cost, High Value New Schools: How Frugal-Minded School Districts Enhance Education While Containing Cost
Greetings MSBA School Districts and Stakeholders,
You won’t want to miss this informative seminar about how to keep your school building costs manageable. Come join two school districts that have just completed new elementary schools at a square foot cost that is significantly lower than the MSBA average.
At this virtual Story of a Building program, not only will you learn about the MSBA’s Model School Program from the City of Marlborough and how they achieved well over $10M savings from the estimated cost of the custom school design, but the City of Taunton will also highlight the savings that it achieved through practical cost containment strategies to optimize savings. This virtual event will be hosted in conjunction with the MCPPO program on December 4th, 2020.
In addition to a virtual school tour and sessions presented by school district officials and their building partners (including the architects and OPMs) the MSBA will moderate a program called How to Choose a Building Management System that includes expectations for operating costs and expertise.
We expect that you will take away multiple teaching points about priorities for designing lower cost, flexible learning spaces that align with a district’s educational program as well as tips to stay disciplined about cost creep. The Marlborough and Taunton school projects will provide you with lessons learned that will help prevent your district’s project from missteps.
