State Treasurer Steven Grossman and the MSBA announce the release of the 2010 Needs Survey report. The 2010 Needs Survey is the culmination of months of work commissioned by the MSBA to collect, verify, update and analyze data on the conditions of district-owned public K-12 school facilities throughout the Commonwealth.
The MSBA’s statute requires that a periodic Needs Survey be conducted to assess the condition of the more than 1,800 elementary and secondary public schools in the Commonwealth The MSBA completed its first Needs Survey in 2005, and launched its second Needs Survey in the spring of 2010.
The 2010 Needs Survey has helped the MSBA to gain an understanding of the current general facility conditions at Massachusetts schools and to validate, update, and supplement the information gathered during the initial Needs Survey in 2005.
Design and engineering professionals visited each school to assess its building systems conditions, general physical environment and space utilization. The data collected will assist the MSBA in determining how the condition of individual schools fit within the statewide spectrum of need and will be one factor that the MSBA will use to assess school needs for potential funding.
The complete results of the 2010 Needs Survey may be found at Needs Survey 2010.
