Treasurer Grossman and Executive Director John K. McCarthy Visit Nelson Place School, Doherty Memorial High School and South High Community School
Treasurer Commits to Continue Working with the District
State Treasurer and Receiver General Steven Grossman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), and Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the MSBA, today visited three schools in Worcester. City educational and community leaders, including Mayor Joseph M. Petty and members of the Worcester School Committee and Worcester City Council, joined Treasurer Grossman and Executive Director McCarthy in the tour of Nelson Place School, Doherty Memorial High School and South High Community School. The Worcester School District has submitted Statements of Interest for each of the schools and has identified the replacement of Nelson Place School as its priority for 2012.
Treasurer Grossman stated his firm commitment to working with the Worcester School District to achieve its school construction goals, including the replacement of Nelson Place School.
“Everybody has a stake in this,” the Treasurer noted. “We want to make sure that we honor the promise that we have made to the students and to the people of this City to deliver the best possible educational product for the 21st century.”
The Massachusetts School Building Authority partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable, and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its creation, the MSBA has made over $8.5 billion in reimbursements to cities, towns, and regional school districts for school construction projects. These timely payments have saved municipalities over $2.9 billion in avoided local interest costs.
