MSBA Announces Angier Elementary in Newton will Enter Feasibility Study Stage

The Massachusetts School Building Authority Announces that Newton Angier Elementary School Will Enter the Feasibility Study Stage

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chair of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), and John K. McCarthy, MSBA Executive Director, announced today that the MSBA Board of Directors voted to invite the Newton School District into the MSBA’s Capital Pipeline to conduct a Feasibility Study for the A.E. Angier Elementary School.

The Feasibility Study will examine options to address the problems identified at the existing Angier Elementary School, which was built in 1919 and serves approximately 450 students.  The District and the MSBA will now work in collaboration to determine the best solution that effectively balances student needs with the District’s available resources and the MSBA’s grant program for school building construction and renovation projects.

“We are committed to working with Newton to find the most economical solution to the problems at Angier so that the students can grow and learn in an educationally appropriate and safe facility,” said State Treasurer Steven Grossman.

“Through this Feasibility Study we will evaluate all the cost effective solutions to the deficiencies of the Angier School,” said Executive Director McCarthy. “We look forward to continuing our due diligence to determine what the best plan of action is moving forward.”

The MSBA works with local communities to identify school facility needs, develop fiscally responsible and educationally appropriate solutions, and create safe, sound, and sustainable learning environments.  Since its 2004 creation, the MSBA has made more than $8.6 billion in timely payments to cities, towns, and regional school districts for school construction projects.   These timely payments have saved municipalities over $2.9 billion in avoided local interest costs and have provided much needed cash flow to communities.
