MSBA Invites Town of Hanover to Launch Feasibility Study for Sylvester Elementary School

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chairman of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), and Jack McCarthy, MSBA Executive Director, announced today that the MSBA Board voted to invite the Town of Hanover to collaborate on a Feasibility Study to look at possible solutions to the deficiencies identified at the Sylvester Elementary School.

“We are committed to working with Hanover officials to find the best alternative for the Sylvester Elementary School,” said Treasurer Grossman. “This collaboration will develop a cost-effective solution that ensures Hanover students can develop and flourish in a state-of-the art, 21st century learning environment.”

Sylvester Elementary School is a 33,210 square foot facility. The school was built in 1927 with a two-story addition added in 1960. The District has identified deficiencies in major building systems including mechanical and electrical.

“This Feasibility Study will carefully examine all potential solutions to help us develop the most effective plan,” stated Executive Director McCarthy. “We look forward to partnering with the District to move this potential project forward.”

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,400 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $10.9 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects.
